About

Looking for a job these days is tough. There aren't a lot of companies hiring out there, and few will respond to your job applications. It can be a numbers game - you may need to apply to a lot of positions to get a handful of responses. But you still need to keep track of all the places you apply to, so that if they invite you to an interview, you have a record of that application.

Becomed lets you do that easily. With Becomed you can record your applications, resumes and cover letter templates, and track which job applications you sent, how far have they have advanced, and what are your next steps. Becomed lets you keep track of what already happened in the job application, and also allows you to set reminders and to-do items for the future, such as interview follow-ups and thank-you emails to recruiters or referrers.

Background

I came up with the idea for Becomed.com while on honeymoon in Hawaii with my wife. I was unemployed, I had already created a few web applications by that point, and I wanted to keep myself busy during my job search so I was trying to think about areas of my day-to-day life that I wanted to automate. I immediately realized that being unemployed, I spend a significant portion of my day applying for jobs, and that the system I was using the keep track wasn't good enough - it was too passive, and involved too much manual manipulation of information. I figured that if I created a site that will assist me with my job application tracking, even if no one else ever used it, it would not be a time wasted since I will get value from it. Also, since I was using it daily, I would immediately notice any problems or areas of improvement - essentially, I was eating my own dog food.

I started working on the site the day after my wife and I came back from our vacation, on Monday, March 23, 2009. A couple of days later I had opened up Becomed.com to the public as a beta web application.
